New construction of the Val Val chairlifts: building application submitted for construction to begin in spring 2025.

Andermatt/Sedrun, September 30, 2024

  • At the beginning of September, Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG submitted a construction application to the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) to replace the chairlifts Val Val – Calmut and Val Val – Cuolm, built in 1988.

  • Construction of the new facilities is expected to begin after the 24/25 winter season.

  • The new, modern facilities will significantly improve guest comfort and eliminate a bottleneck in the guest flow within the Andermatt-Sedrun ski area connection. With the new detachable 6-seater chairlifts, Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG will be able to double the transport capacity and significantly reduce travel times. Thanks to the planned improvements, the lifts, currently used mainly as a connection between Cuolm Val and Oberalppass, will also be able to serve as recreational facilities. The upgrade will enhance guest comfort and greatly increase efficiency.

The transport capacity of both systems will increase from 1,200 to 2,400 people per hour. These are two 6-seater chairlifts by Garaventa. The project includes a new valley station and two new mountain stations. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025, with the opening planned for the 2025/26 winter season.

Since 2019, the Val Val valley area has been classified as hazard level 1 (red zone), requiring additional avalanche protection measures on both valley slopes.
