Ski Touring Paradise

Ski mountains as far as the eye can see

There are countless peaks around Andermatt, Sedrun and Disentis that are perfect for ski tours. Thanks to a dense network of SAC huts, the good train connection over the Oberalp Pass and the ski area's mountain railroads, you can be on a tour in no time at all.

Summit bliss

Whether in the Ursern Valley or in the valleys near Disentis, the peaks here are sometimes very close together. There are countless opportunities for ski tours from the Albert Heim hut, for example. If you have alpine experience and stamina, venture up the Galenstock, if you like it easy, opt for the Chli Bielenhorn. Both have sensational views in common. From the Surselva, a tour to the 3,328-metre-high Oberalpstock, known as Piz Tgietschen on this side of the Oberalp Pass (Rhaeto-Romanic for red mountain), is well worthwhile. From here, there are some long and steep powder slopes that make the hearts of freeriders beat faster.

Short ascents, long descents

Many starting points for ski tours in our region are exceptionally easy to reach: You can take the ski lift up and conquer the first few meters of altitude without any effort. Or you can take the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway to the stop at the Oberalp Pass. This way you save your energy for the long descents in the powder and don't get out of breath on the way up.

Safety first

Ski touring takes you away from the secured pistes. Experience in open terrain, safe handling of avalanche equipment and serious preparation, including an overview of the current avalanche situation, are therefore an absolute must before every tour. If you are not yet familiar with the area or are unsure about your off-piste skills, we recommend that you are accompanied by a mountain sports professional. Please also note the wildlife protection areas and quiet zones.

SAC huts in the region

Around Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis you will find various huts run by the Swiss Alpine Club. The Maighels hut, the Rotondo hut and the Albert Heim hut, for example, can all be reached in a few hours on touring skis or spiltboard. Some of them are also manned in winter and if not, you can bring your own food and make yourself comfortable in the winter room. All huts are perfect starting points for a variety of great ski tours.
