The Federal Office of Transport (FOT) gives the green light for the chairlift renewal.
Sedrun, 2 April 2025
With the planning approval from the Federal Office of Transport on 28 March 2025, construction of the new Val Val – Cuolm Val and Val Val – Calmut chairlifts will begin in spring 2025. The existing 4-seater chairlifts will be replaced by modern 6-seaters, doubling the capacity to 2,400 people per hour and significantly reducing travel time.
These new lifts are central to the connection between the Oberalp Pass and Milez/Cuolm Val, and they support Vail Resorts' long-term investment strategy. Construction is tightly scheduled, starting right after the 2024/25 winter season, with opening planned for December 2025. Thanks to special permits, preparatory work can begin immediately after the season ends.
The project has been carefully prepared since 2022 and has largely been awarded to regional companies. In addition to the new lifts, avalanche protection systems will be built and coordinated with other regional projects such as the Solar Sedrun photovoltaic installation. Close cooperation between all parties involved is essential.
