Description

From the Disentis train station the path quickly takes us out to the village and down to Brulf, on the Rhine. We walk along the river to the village of Disla, which is still inhabited by around 90 people. Despite the partly new houses, it has remained very original; lovingly maintained wooden houses line the path, flowers, berries and fruit grow in the gardens and chickens enjoy their exercise in the enclosures. The renovated fulling mill building with its water wheel is immediately noticeable. But behind the picturesque facades of other buildings there are other old businesses that are open once a year, on “Mill Day” or during certain tours. In Disla you can also find an old grain mill, a weaving room and an old cheese factory. An old blacksmith shop was converted into a restaurant, Ustria Fravia. The St. Luzius Chapel is striking and unique because of its octagonal shape and is one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Switzerland.

After our tour of the village we climb up to the cantonal road, after which we continue on a pretty hiking trail to Faltscharidas. Once back on the main road, we visit the Sogn Placi church, which has been protected from avalanches by a massive stone wall for decades.
