Gotthard Crystal Trek: Stage 5

On the fifth day of the Gotthard Crystal Trek, the shortest stage first leads uphill behind the Etzlihütte, with impressive views of the Witenalpstock and Oberalpstock. After about an hour, you reach the highlight of the day at 2,300 meters: Lake Spillaui. If you wish, you can leave the main route and descend to the lake - it's worth the extra effort. There is a large rock in the middle of the lake, which you can reach when the water level is low. After the lake, continue to the Pörtlilücke, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views in both directions. The descent to the Treschhütte is short, but challenging at over 1,000 meters in altitude, with rock steps in places. In the rain, these are very slippery and therefore additionally secured with chains. After less than four hours of hiking, you reach the Treschhütte, the lowest SAC hut in the Alps.
