If you are new to vertical climbing, we recommend that you take a mountain guide with you on your first adventure.
Sport climbing
Climbing garden-like rocks at the bottom of the valley and mighty climbing peaks higher up. The varied area of the Göscheneralp is known far beyond the canton's borders for its fantastic climbing. Numerous well-known climbers have already left their mark in the valley. The multi-pitch routes on the Salbitschjien are among the best-known climbing routes in the Andermatt holiday region. At Salbitschijen, the granite has folded up vertically, resulting in a strong division into ridges, cracks and intersections in the bomb rock. The Salbit suspension bridge connects the Salbit hut with the Voralphütte and also facilitates access to the climbing area.
One of the strongest granite worlds in Switzerland. The choice of climbing tours on the Furka Pass is seemingly limitless. There are beautiful tours for every style and level of difficulty. In the finest rough granite, climbers can find everything from easy ridge climbing and multi-rope tours to exposed wall climbing. Steep routes with slabs, cracks and intersections can be found in the compact rock of the Furka Pass region. Exciting climbing sections lead to the highest peaks.
The Galenstock towers over the whole area. With its striking glacier peak, it is a magnificent panoramic mountain. Climbers will find tours of all kinds here. Whether combined ascents, classic ridges or ambitious destinations for rock climbers. Due to the relatively short approach, the Chli Bielenhorn is a popular climbing destination. A magnificent view of the surrounding mountain ranges and the Ursern Valley awaits at the summit. The Turtle Ridge, as the Chli Bilenhorn is popularly known, is an ideal beginners' and training tour.
The climbing routes south of the Oberalp Pass are in no way inferior to those on the Furka or Salbit in terms of rock quality. However, the choice of routes is smaller. The direct route to Strahlgand offers one pitch of climbing in perfect granite. The first pitch alone justifies the approach. Climbers who do not shy away from the ascent to the summit are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view. The Luterseeplatten climbing routes are an additional highlight.
The Meiental stretches from Wassen towards the Susten Pass along the Meienreuss. It is located on entirely crystalline ground, on gneiss. The areas around the Sewen and Sustli huts are interesting destinations for climbers. Both huts can be reached on good mountain paths in 1 to 1.5 hours. There are well-equipped climbing gardens near the huts, which offer easy and well-secured routes in the best Erstfeld gneiss. You can also undertake high-altitude tours as well as some beautiful plaisir multi-pitch tours, some of which are alpine in character.
Below the Sustlihütte, at Sustenbrüggli, there are countless boulders. They form an excellent meeting point for boulderers in summer.

Via ferrata
The Adlerhorst via ferrata above Lake Arni on the Piel-Flue is a family-friendly adventure with a unique view. The tour starts with a 20-minute approach from Lake Arni and leads via a ladder into the wall, where the first section offers an emergency exit if required. The route winds along the rock face and leads through a ramp into the steep middle section with a short overhang passage that requires some skill. The climb ends with a magnificent panoramic view over Lake Arnisee and the Reuss Valley - a feeling like an eagle in its eyrie. Open from May to the end of November, the via ferrata offers an adventurous tour for the whole family with a climbing time of around one and a half to two hours. If you don't have your own equipment, you can hire it from the Alpenblick mountain inn.
The Diavolo via ferrata in the granite rocks of the Schöllenen offers spectacular views of the wild gorge and its traffic routes - an unrivalled experience. The route runs over 700 metres of secured wire ropes, 265 iron pins, artificial footholds and two ladders, which offer a firm hold and safety and are ideal for beginners. With a climbing time of around two to two and a half hours, the via ferrata is an adventurous experience for young and old.
The via ferrata is expected to be open from 18 May to 20 October 2025.
The Krokodil via ferrata above the Bergsee Hut runs along the striking rock tower, which resembles a crocodile. In around one and a half to two and a half hours, the family-friendly route leads over the stem of the Bergseeschijen and rewards you with a magnificent view of the Dammagletscher and the surrounding peaks. A highlight is the 18-metre-long rope bridge that runs 50 metres above the ground - a safe, exciting experience that can also be bypassed if necessary. The ascent takes around 15 minutes from the Bergseehütte and the hut can be reached again in half an hour after the descent. If you don't bring your own climbing equipment, you can hire it on site at the hut.
