The Ursern Valley is the largest valley in Uri and is characterised by its unique location between the Oberalp Pass, the Gotthard Pass and the Furka Pass. It offers unlimited possibilities for mountain hikers, especially in winter.
Highlights
Stotzigen Firsten (2747 m above sea level)
At the beginning of the long Witenwasserental valley, you reach the Stotzigen Firsten - a classic in the Gotthard region.
Rossbodenstock (2837 m above sea level)
The Rossbodenstock attracts visitors with its summit flank and offers interesting, sometimes racy ski runs. It is usually combined with the ascent of the Pazolastock. However, the mountain lies on the edge of a wildlife sanctuary, which must be taken into account when choosing a route.
Badus (2928 m above sea level)
Further north of the Rossbodenstock is the pleasant Badus, inconspicuous but very beautiful. The Piz Badus offers extremely attractive, moderately steep downhill slopes and a great view of the surrounding peaks.
Chli Bielenhorn (2940 m above sea level)
For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the Chli Bielenhorn is the perfect destination. A small but beautiful, frequently visited ski and snowshoe tour destination surrounded by rugged granite peaks and a steep glacier.
Pizzo Lucendro (2962 m above sea level)
Pizzo Lucendro, inconspicuous at first glance, amazes its visitors at altitude. The view of the Rotondo area and the descent through the remote Witenwasserental valley prove it right.
Pizzo Centrale (2999 m above sea level)
The Pizzo Centrale marks the border between the cantons of Uri, Ticino and Grisons. The highest peak is just seventy centimetres short of the magical three-thousand metre mark. The view is nonetheless stunning.
Tiefenstock (3515 m above sea level)
You can see from afar that the Tiefenstock is not easy to climb. But with alpine experience and perseverance, you will be rewarded with a summit experience that will stay with you for a long time.
Galenstock (3586 m above sea level)
If the trained eye of a ski tourer wanders around the Ursern Valley, he will not be able to avoid the Galenstock area. The closely spaced peaks around the Albert Heim hut are too striking and impressive.
Göscheneralp
The Göscheneralp is not only known among sport climbers for the best granite, but also among ski tour enthusiasts for the fantastic summits.
Highlights
Lochberg (3078 m above sea level)
To the right of the dam, several peaks form a chain that only allows a connection to the other side via the Lochberg. This beautifully shaped, top-class ski summit offers everything a ski tourer's heart desires: a wide and steep firn slope and a breathtaking view.
Rorspitzli (3219 m above sea level)
Those who tackle the long and sometimes arduous ascents of the Rorspitzli from the Göscheneralp are rewarded with the extremely tempting and steep descents into the Meiental valley opposite.
Sustenhorn (3502 m above sea level)
The most rewarding and best-known ski tour is probably the Sustenhorn. The ascent from Voralp or Chelenalp is probably the most fitting way to encounter this Uri giant. Once you reach the summit cross, you will be happy to leave your tracks in the unique high alpine surroundings of glacier and rock.
Taxi Göscheneralptal
In winter, the ‘Göscheneralptal’ taxi takes its guests to their destination by snowmobile or sledge when the road is closed. In summer it is also available in the early or late hours to bring guests to their destination.
Travelling along the Susten Pass road from Wassen towards Meiental, a veritable ski touring treasure trove opens up. On the more or less sunny south side, there are several rewarding summit destinations. On the opposite north side, not only are the peaks higher, but the climbs are also significantly longer and more strenuous.
Highlights
Grassen (2945 m above sea level)
The Grassen offers a breathtaking view of the south face of the Titlis and the Engelberg valley below. The descent to Engelberg enjoys an exceptional reputation among ski tourers.
Bächenstock (3010 m above sea level)
One of the most famous and most visited peaks is the Bächenstock. The trail leads up through magnificent snowy landscapes and the summit glacier, and you can already see what a great descent lies ahead.
Gross Spannort (3198 m above sea level)
One of the most impressive peaks is the Gross Spannort, where alpine equipment and experience are an advantage on the ascent.
Stucklistock (3312 m above sea level)
The majestic Stucklistock presents itself in all its splendour from the valley, but anyone who has ever stood on the ascent of the stubborn glacier knows that its beauty has been vastly underestimated. The highest demands are met on the stepless descent, but you should be able to control your skis and find your way around the alpine environment.
Snow Touring Bus
The Snow Touring Bus is a transport service for ski tourers and snowshoers. The regional services supplement the public transport network in places and extend it to areas that were previously not accessible by public transport in winter. In the Andermatt Holiday Region, the snow tour bus can be booked on the Andermatt-Färnigen route.
The Uri Haute Route
This ski tour between Andermatt and Engelberg, steeped in history, stretches through a particularly remote area in winter. The magnificent stages from hut to hut are characterised by a touch of adventure. Summit tours from Gemsstock to Lochberg, Sustenhorn, Uratstock, Grassen, followed by a dream descent to Engelberg.
This impressive route through the Central Swiss Alps used to be one of the great Alpine crossings. It offers around 5500 metres of ascent and descent and can be completed in four to five days.
