Nufenen Pass

2,478 m above sea level / Ulrichen - Airolo

The pass road through the quiet Bedretto Valley into the Upper Valais was only opened in 1969. The well-developed Nufenen is the second-highest Swiss Alpine pass after the Umbrail. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view over snow-capped mountains. Not only hikers and mountain bikers appreciate the varied nature in the Bedretto Valley, ibex also feel at home here. Keep your eyes peeled, with a bit of luck you might spot them directly from the road.

Tip: Hike to the Ticino spring

The fourth stage of the Four Springs Trail leads to the Ticino Spring below the Nufenen Pass. From the Alpe di Cruina, it takes about 30 minutes to walk to the Ticino spring. With a bit of luck, you may even spot wild marmots or hear their whistling.
