Ticinoquelle

The River Ticino flows southwards from the Alps to the palm trees in Lake Maggiore. A hike from the Piansecco hut takes you to the headwaters and source of this river, below the Nufenen Pass. The hut and the headwaters of the Ticino are both on the fourth stage of the Four Springs Trail. This stage leads over the Nufenen Pass, through the Ägenetal valley and into the Valais to Ulrichen/Obergesteln. The Nufenen Pass is a highlight of this day hike in two senses, as it is also the highest point of this stage. The Piansecco hut can be reached by post bus and a hike from Airolo.
