Visierstollen Göschenen

Description

Göschenen, the Gotthard tunnel village, is famous for the construction of the Gotthard tunnel, which was the longest railway tunnel in the world from 1872 to 1882. The development of transport over the Gotthard can be impressively traced in Göschenen: From the mule tracks for mercenaries, pilgrims and traders to the historic railway tunnel and the modern motorway tunnel, which made the Alpine massif the central European transalpine route.

The Visitor Tunnel, one of 14 stops on the Gotthard Tunnel Village tour, offers a free tour right next to Göschenen railway station. A short audio show impressively recreates a historical blast. The tour can be visited individually or on request with a guide from May to October.
