National St. Gotthard Museum
Description
Guests and travellers should visit the National St. Gotthard Museum in the Alte Sust. The building, which dates back to 1834, once served as a customs post and accommodation for travellers passing through. It has been stylishly renovated and vividly illustrates the history of the pass and the development of transit traffic. The historical, cultural, political and ethnological significance of the pass road is also highlighted. The varied collection includes reliefs, models, documents, weapons, uniforms, works of art, minerals and old vehicles. There is also a kiosk and a self-service restaurant for refreshments. A visit to the nearby Sasso San Gottardo fortress complements the museum experience perfectly.
