The unique Sasso San Gottardo Museum, located in the former Gotthard fortress, invites you on a fascinating journey of discovery into the hidden world of the mountain. The Metro del Sasso connects the exhibitions with the historic fortress, which is hidden deep inside the mountain.
In addition to changing exhibitions, visitors can experience the country's first permanent exhibition ‘Goethe on the Gotthard - Highlights of his Swiss Journeys’, which highlights Goethe's three journeys on the Gotthard. Additional highlights include the crystal cavern and the resting gallery. The Metro del Sasso takes visitors to the historic fortress, where they can explore the secret ammunition depots, troop shelters and cannon positions of the Reduit. A side tunnel leads to a spectacular viewing platform from which you can enjoy the impressive surroundings.
