Piz Rondadura
Route Information
Best Time of Year
Description
We base our start time on the opening times of the Lukmanier Pass, as early as possible in spring. The first challenge awaits us at the end of the lake. This is because the bridge over the Rein da Medel is dismantled in winter. Afterwards, we quickly gain height in regular hairpin bends and look forward to the first rays of sunshine, which reach us at about the height of Alp Scaione. Passing below Piz Scaio, through hollows and over gentle hills, we reach the last steep section up to the ski depot, which is easy to master with short hairpin bends. This is followed by a final rocky section without skis, then we are at the top! It is an indescribable feeling to stand on the narrow summit and have a clear view in all directions. The most striking points are the Santa Maria reservoir at our feet and the slightly higher Scopi with the military transmitters.
The descent along the ascent track is pure pleasure, in powder or firn. In spring it quickly becomes muddy if you haven't started early enough. At the height of the lake, we briefly put on our skins again.
Tip: As the Lukmanierpasse is not accessible by public transport in winter, an on-call bus service is available on request:
